Here's a few interesting and insightful tweets about the Labour Party's just-announced immigration policy. The most recent tweets are first.

I hope Labour's next policy announcement isn't another one that starts bitter arguments among left-wing people & its potential supporters.

Not fuck about with "policy settings" that many supporters perceive as dog whistle racism, for the sake of a mythical bad-faith middle.
Immigration is often used as a way to discuss problems a society is facing in housing and infrastructure while avoiding accountability.
Some people are going to be very disappointed when Labour's immigration cuts don't magically fix the housing crisis either
It's easier to scapegoat foreign students/other immigrants than the (voting) NIMBYs in Auckland who blocked unitary plan density proposals.

Once NZ Twitteratti learn to count, they are going to be terribly surprised that Greens + Labour doesn't = 51 #nzpol
Esp: "Are you an anti-immigration party now?" Little: "We have to have a debate about immigration... we can't be too squeamish" So: yes.
There's still fcking 40k immigrants allowed under this pilicy. How can it be anti-immigrant?
WHY DIDN'T HE JUST SAY THAT? Because Labour wants to have its cake and eat it: deny being anti-immigration while harvesting anti-imm votes
The centre-Left have been trying to square the circle for years of being pro migrant AND anti immigration.
One simple fact Labour has an immigration policy which is rational - National policy is a thing of rags and tatters and certainly cruel
If your argument is "low skilked" immigrants are being exploited, the correct approach is to fix the exploitation, not reduce immigration.
Like, I get it, Labour are using the anti-immigration shtick to try to win NZF's voting base. Good luck with that.

NZ Labour has become a big NZ First: maybe a little one soon! Anti drug and justice reform, anti immigration, tough on crime: embarrassment

Labour will consider @winstonpeters' endorsement much more important than the criticism from @dbseymour & @PeterDunneMP
"The goal of our immigration policy is quite clear. It will be as confusing as necessary to keep people distracted from the housing crisis."
All I know for sure is that it is a very small step from "immigration is the problem" to "immigrants are the problem". A very small step.

All this bitching & moaning about "Immigration" reminds me of when The All Blacks lose & people try 2 find SOMEONE ELSE 2 blame. Don't @ me
I don't know which side of the immigration debate is right or left or up or down anymore.
Pat Brittenden @patbrittenden
Seems the @nzlabour have chosen to give up the left/center left to the @NZGreens with their #Trumpian 'breather on immigration' policy
Pat Brittenden @patbrittenden
Seems that @nzlabour's 'breather on immigration' will deliver @NZGreens a heap of support as they move to the right #whoaretheynow
Bold idea: we could require a living wage and training apprentices without the immigration crackdown.
Matthew Hooton @MatthewHootonNZ
Can anyone point me to the press statement from @nzteu etc slamming @AndrewLittleMP's immigration policy & the likely job losses?
Immigration always been the territory of Winston. First election where it's gone mainstream? Inevitable given our age & stage as country?
Not sure how I feel about Labour's immigration policy but they're sounding more measured. That tone would've served them well a while ago.
Labour's PTE policy is good. PTE industry is exploitative, bad for NZ's intl reputation, and doesn't actually bring in much $$$ for govt...
Pat Brittenden @patbrittenden
I wonder if #Labour's 'breather on immigration' will be more active on particular ethnicities? Whats become of this party? Who are they now?
Foxes La Rouge 🔥 👅 @FoxyLustyGrover
I was against Muldoon's Racist Anti-Immigrant Dawn Raids when I was a child & I'm against Anti-Immigrant Policy in New Zealand now @nzlabour
Pat Brittenden @patbrittenden
Who would have thought that #AndrewLittle and #Labour would take a leaf out of @realDonaldTrump's book and put a "breather on immigration"
Winston Peters @winstonpeters
Congratulations @nzlabour for putting New Zealand First for a change.
Winston Peters @winstonpeters
Labour's immigration policy. A touch too xenophobic?
Labour's policy on immigration hasn't even been announced yet & nz twitter is already acting like it's the rise of the 4th reich. smh
I love immigrants. They make my community vibrant & my children open minded. Lets build better infrastructure to support everyone. There you go
Emma Espiner 🐯 @emmawehipeihana
There's a time when we'll be competing for immigrants again. Let's be leaders on this.
Foxes La Rouge 🔥 👅 @FoxyLustyGrover
Immigration is not *the problem* in New Zealand, Government not keeping up with "Infrastructure" in line with growing population is.
Under Labour's bold new plan to come in at 23% of the vote, NZ will stop taking migrants who aren't builders.
