Pretty much everyone on Twitter seems to agree on the Harmful Digital Communications Bill being problematic. This *really* says something.
Sad irony that in week Harmful Digital Communications Bill likely passes, attack on @EleanorCatton dismissed. Worse than MP's tweets. #nzpol
Does the cyber-bullying law mean you have to favourite all my tweets otherwise you go to jail? I am in favour of this law.
I'm in full support of the Harmful Digital Communications Bill, and those who think politicians will abuse it should trust our judges more.
@patrickgowernz Did you know that if the harmful Digital Communications bill passes, your job will be illegal?
> Patrick Gower @patrickgowernz
@norightturnnz that will make you twitter guys happy won't it
> Idiot/Savant @norightturnnz Jun 26
@patrickgowernz Not really. The job is more than you.
> Patrick Gower @patrickgowernz
@norightturnnz I agree.
@norightturnnz @patrickgowernz That's a good point, but I still oppose this bill.
> Patrick Gower @patrickgowernz
@danylmc @norightturnnz heh. I actually think the Twitterati are just as bad if not worse than this Bill. They want to stop people like me
@patrickgowernz @norightturnnz We have the power to tweet you, and all Parliament has is the criminal justice system.
> Patrick Gower @patrickgowernz
@danylmc @norightturnnz I'm still standing
@patrickgowernz @norightturnnz Not after this bill passes and I have you imprisoned for your cruel hurtful remarks about the twitterati
> Patrick Gower @patrickgowernz
@danylmc @norightturnnz I would happily do time for criticising Twitterati.Hopefully I couldn't hear their incessant whinging from Big House
> Thomas Beagle @thomasbeagle
@patrickgowernz @danylmc @norightturnnz We'll put a big live Twitter display across the road from your cell. #mwahahaha
Graeme Edgeler @GraemeEdgeler
How likely do we think it is that some of the roastbusters suffered serious emotional distress from the on-line coverage of their actions?
The problem with the Roast Busters wasn't that they were boasting online, it's that they were raping people. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=11472231 …
If the Harmful Digital Communications bill had been law, how many times do we think Asenati would have tried to use it? #nzpol
ACT - so torpid over the GCSB & telco intercept laws - has woken up over the Harmful Digital Communinations Bill ($) http://www.nbr.co.nz/opinion/harmful-digital-communications-bill-war-cyber-bullying-or-attack-free-speech …
Harmful Digital Communications Bill would make it a crime to say something nasty about a politician, or even Mike Hosking.
So @JudithCollinsMP is behind Harmful Digital Communications Bill, figures, That corrupt human-cesspit would love to muzzle the free speech
Joshua Drummond @joshua_drummond
Dear @NZGreens: oppose the current Harmful Digital Communications bill or lose my vote: http://norightturn.blogspot.co.nz/2015/06/this-law-should-not-be-passed.html …
@NZGreens why are your MPs voting to outlaw serious journalism in NZ? http://norightturn.blogspot.co.nz/2015/06/much-worse-than-i-thought.html …
How to defeat HDC Bill: start bringing private prosecutions against MPs for their press releases whenever they attack someone
(And Ministers who abuse their powers to invade privacy to bully critics? They're prime targets for such a strategy)
> Graeme Edgeler @GraemeEdgeler
@norightturnnz unless they use the airwaves and not the interttubes.
> Graeme Edgeler @GraemeEdgeler
@norightturnnz unless they use the airwaves and not the interttubes.
> Graeme Edgeler@GraemeEdgeler
@thomasbeagle @norightturnnz forgot that. And entirely clear from amendments to the Human Rights Act.
> Idiot/Savant @norightturnnz Jun 26
@GraemeEdgeler @thomasbeagle So hold on, is Parliament about to ban TV and radio journalism?
> Graeme Edgeler @GraemeEdgeler
@norightturnnz @thomasbeagle Parliament banned flag burning too. The Courts will probably interpret to ignore its worst effects.
> Idiot/Savant @norightturnnz
@GraemeEdgeler @thomasbeagle That's the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff. No democracy should pass a law outlawing journalism
> Graeme Edgeler @GraemeEdgeler
@norightturnnz @thomasbeagle not disputing that, just that my prediction is that your predictions of sky-falling will not occur.
> Idiot/Savant @norightturnnz
@GraemeEdgeler @thomasbeagle I am more concerned about chilling effects and overzealous prosecution than people actually getting jailed
This is the thing: cyber-bullying is a serious thing that should be solved, but most of that wasn't even close
... and some of it was so trivial as to be an insult to people who've actually suffered serious harassment and harm from cyber-bullying.

> Dylan Horrocks @dylanhorrocks
@gtiso I hate to agree with ACT on anything, but this bill goes *way* too far. Especially 3 & 4.
> Dylan Horrocks @dylanhorrocks
@styler @gtiso @NZGreens My guess is they're swallowing a dead rat because no-one wants to be seen to support cyberbullying. @GarethMP
Stephanie Rodgers @bootstheory
@LewSOS There's a great tension btw "MPs read mean tweets!" (which aren't THAT bad) headline on article proclaiming MPs "have thicker skin"
kind of offended @StuffNZ hv subtitled it's story on mean tweets to MPs "MPs read troll abuse" I am not a troll, my tweet was not abusive.
SaveOurSchoolsNZ @Dianne_Khan
Just watched the mean Tweets thing, and many of them were just rhetoric, not mean. There are plenty of worse out there, often by MPs!
Martyn Bradbury @CitizenBomber
These so called abusive tweets are the most mild in the world - are these examples of what will trigger an arrest? http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/69683161/mps-read-mean-tweets …
SaveOurSchoolsNZ @Dianne_Khan
What would interest me also is hearing others read the mean Tweets that some of those MPs have sent, particularly Ms Collins.
Dissed by Marama Fox for not spelling Dawg right, but I did spell Dawg right... It's my dogs name. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/69683161/mps-read-mean-tweets …
HDC Bill changes. Now covers material *likely* to harm the complainant rather than just material that has caused harm.
