First the Maori Party announce a work-for-the-dole policy, then National re-adopts it, and now Labour are actually implementing it. The Government is quietly bringing introducing a work-for-the-dole scheme with the passage of the Social Security Amendment Bill. The unemployed will have their benefits cut in half if they refuse to carry out any part of their agreement which could include unpaid community work. More than ever before, the parliamentary parties are adopting each other's policies. And as with many other such agreed policies, they don't actually work.
